Overview

Join Beca’s Primary / HV Substation Design team in this leading nationwide business. You will play a lead role delivering Primary and HV Substation designs to enable the transmission, distribution and decarbonisation of energy throughout New Zealand and Australia. You will build your technical primary and substation design skills, learning from Beca’s leading subject matter experts, while developing and coaching the next generation of electrical engineers.

You Will

  • Lead and work on a variety of project types that differ in scale, scope, geography, site and client types throughout New Zealand and Australia
  • Create High Voltage (HV 220kV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV 500kV) electrical conceptual and detailed designs using the latest digital design technologies
  • Solve problems and deliver solutions across site considerations, client requirements, standards, equipment specifications, cable sizing, earthing design calculations, and safety standards
  • Develop your own technical expertise while supporting the delivery of high-quality technical advice and project designs
  • Mentor, coach and develop the next generation of Power electrical engineers
  • Support on-the-job and technical training and career development
  • Contribute to the Power team’s delivery excellence, quality assurance, and high-quality design
  • Be accountable for financial and programme outcomes on projects and work packages you are leading
  • Support client management, bidding, and preparation of project proposals
  • Manage multiple workstreams and adapt to changing project deliverables and timeframes
  • Communicate proactively with stakeholders, especially when project timelines are at risk

About You

Your primary and substation design skills are grounded in solid fundamentals, proven through leading complex projects. You have experience delivering high voltage substation designs, ensuring quality and accuracy while guiding others.

You Bring

  • Experience producing substation layouts, equipment lists, clearance checks, and HV cable designs
  • Familiarity with New Zealand and Australian regulations
  • Proficiency in CYMCAP, CDEGs, Autodesk SBS, Inventor, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and / or MicroStation (advantageous)
  • Motivation to learn and grow within a team, managing multiple tasks with enthusiasm and a focus on outcomes
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across functions and disciplines
  • Passion for learning, engaging, and supporting others
  • A positive attitude and a good sense of humour
