Te Kura o Tiori - Burnham School is seeking an exceptional, experienced, and fully NZ-registered l iteracy acceleration teacher to join our supportive, dedicated learning support team in a part-time (0.5 FTE) capacity . For the successful applicant, there may be an opportunity to negotiate further part-time hours and a fixed-term leadership unit for leading English across the school for the 2026 school year only.

This vital position focuses on accelerating the literacy progress of targeted students who require intensive, evidence-based support from Y0-6. This is primarily a small-group and one-on-one teaching role , delivered across four days (Monday to Thursday) .

You will be responsible for :

  • Designing and delivering high-quality, systematic, and explicit instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and a Structured Literacy approach .
  • Driving measurable progress in core literacy skills (phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension) through targeted acceleration.
  • Building strong, genuine connections with our tamariki and whānau , integrating seamlessly into our positive school culture.

We are looking for a teacher who :

  • Holds current NZ full teacher registration and a practising certificate.
  • Possesses deep pedagogical knowledge and demonstrated success in implementing NZ structured literacy programmes.
  • Cares deeply about children, enjoys being part of a positive staff culture, and brings a steady, caring presence to the school.
  • Embodies the school's values and REP Learner Actions every day.
  • Please note : This role is not suitable for applicants who have not taught New Zealand Structured Literacy.
