Safety and Wellness Advisor

Would you like to help us build a culture of continuous improvement in safety and wellness?

Would you like to be part of a supportive team that is focused on ensuring our people thrive?

About the role

We are looking for a positive "people person" who can proactively build rapport, engage collaboratively, and foster a culture where our people are empowered to take ownership of health and safety in the workplace.

We need someone with the ability to communicate effectively across a range of audiences and provide guidance and advice on a wide range of risks.

No two days are the same in this role : you will be involved in tasks such as event investigations, critical risk audits, contractor management, and providing internal training.

You'll be joining an organisation where health, safety, and wellbeing are genuinely valued, with strong support and visible commitment from our leadership team.

We're committed to creating a healthy and safe workplace so our people go home safe, every day.

This is a full-time, permanent position based out of our Te Aroha office; however, due to the nature of the role there is a need to visit other sites in the Matamata-Piako district.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have :

At least 3 years' relevant experience

A relevant qualification(s) in Health and Safety

Confidence in dealing with people at all levels of the organisation

Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills

Interest in getting out on site to see how 'work is done'

Relocation

Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

So what can we offer you?

There are many great things about working at MPDC.

The top reason our staff give time and time again is "the people."

We have a supportive team environment, a welcoming and positive culture, and we offer ongoing learning opportunities to support your growth and development.

We offer a range of staff benefits including :

Flexible working arrangements and a family-friendly working environment

Sick leave on commencement

Additional annual leave awarded with years of service

Paid partners parental leave

Crediting current continuous local government service for the purpose of annual and long service leave entitlements

Subsidies at Council pool facilities

Office based on the doorstep of the beautiful Kaimai Ranges
