About the Role

The Lead Software Engineer – Power Platform is central in delivering high-quality solutions across PowerApps, Power Automate, Power Pages, Dataverse and Copilot Studio.

This role is pivotal in establishing a scalable Centre of Excellence (CoE), embedding automation and AI into enterprise solutions, and enabling Health New Zealand's digital transformation. You'll lead the charge in building intelligent, secure, and scalable applications that improve operational efficiency and user experience.

Key responsibilities include :

Establishing a National Centre of Excellence (CoE) for scalable Power Platform delivery.

Collaborating with various teams and external partners to ensure platform stability and innovation.

Developing a governance framework aligned with Health New Zealand's digital strategy.

Acting as the single point of accountability for Power Platform strategy, security, and vendor engagement.

Providing guidance on licensing, data integration, and app lifecycle management.

Leading the transition to a unified national support model.

Upskilling internal teams to build sustainable in-house capabilities..

About the Team / Service / Location

The role reports to the Manager, Development, within the Digital Applications & Products function. This team is responsible for delivering and supporting digital products and services that enable essential corporate, regulatory, and sector-specific functions across the organisation.

With a national scope, the team ensures systems are robust, secure, and aligned with modern technology standards. For the Power Platform, this means building reusable patterns, promoting consistent practices across the country, and supporting business units to deliver value safely and effectively.

About you

You're a seasoned digital leader with deep experience in the Microsoft ecosystem, especially Power Platform. You thrive in complex delivery environments and balance technical detail with strategic oversight. You're comfortable rolling up your sleeves to solve design challenges, but just as focused on building capability and embedding sustainable practices.

You will bring :

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 7 years of experience as a software engineer, with at least 3 years in the Microsoft Power Platform domain.

Proven expertise in Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power Pages, Dataverse, Copilot Studio) with a track record of delivering enterprise-scale solutions.

Strong knowledge of governance, security, and compliance practices for Power Platform in regulated environments.

Experience with AI, Integration, automation, application lifecycle management (ALM), DevOps pipelines, and solution packaging for Power Platform.

Ability to lead and mentor high-performing engineering teams and reduce reliance on external vendors.

Deep understanding of Microsoft 365, Azure services, and integration patterns that extend the value of the Power Platform.

Experience working in large, complex organisations; exposure to the health or public sector is highly desirable
