About the Role
The Senior Technical Lead plays a critical role at the technology and delivery level, responsible for making day-to-day technical decisions across operations, projects, and programmes while ensuring alignment with approved architectural standards. This position provides expert technical guidance to support successful delivery and operational outcomes, ensuring solutions are closely aligned with business needs and designed for scalability and future growth. The Senior Technical Lead champions continuous improvement and adherence to best practices and standards, collaborating closely with delivery teams, architects, and vendors to ensure technical decisions are fit for purpose, efficient, and effective in meeting or exceeding organisational requirements.
About the Team / Service / Location
The Senior Technical Lead sits within the Digital Applications & Products function under the wider Digital Services group. Reporting into the Manager Application Services, this team is focused on supporting digital products supporting Ministry of Health Regulatory functions, Health New Zealand Corporate functions (HR, Finance, Payroll, Recruitment, Clinical Quality and Safety, Risk Management, Training and Learning and Development) and applications supporting Health Sector Agreements management and Subsidy Payments. Working closely with architects, delivery teams, and external vendors, the Senior Technical Lead plays a vital role in ensuring technical decisions are efficient, effective, and uphold the highest standards.
About you
You'll bring extensive experience in technical leadership within complex IT environments, ideally with a background in service availability, optimisation, and compliance. Confident in guiding technical teams and engaging with stakeholders at all levels, you excel at simplifying complex technical issues and driving continuous improvement. You have a proven ability to mentor engineers, implement technical standards, and deliver scalable solutions aligned with business goals.
