Role

As a Resource Management Officer Monitoring, you will have a sound level of environmental and farming knowledge as well as the ability to manage and reprioritise ever changing workloads. You will develop relationships throughout Council, with consent holders, the general public and industry representatives. You will be comfortable working in unknown situations dealing with complex compliance issues exercising discretion in non-compliance situations to obtain best environmental outcome, retain organisational goals and values and maintain consistency with legislation, while maintaining professional relationships and maintaining your own safety and wellbeing.

This role will largely consist of field work; however, the role also involves some office-based work including information gathering, providing advice and education, and assisting with investigations.

You will need excellent communication skills to connect with the diverse range of people we support across Southland. Although part of a team, you will often be working alone and will need a demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure.

Qualifications / Experience

Experience in any of the following disciplines, although not essential would be an advantage :

  • Investigations and inspections within compliance / regulatory environment
  • Experience with farm or dairying systems

A proven ability to effectively deal with conflict is required, as is a good understanding of relevant environmental issues that affect the Southland region.

Additional requirements : Successful applicants will be police-vetted and, after training, will be required to participate in an on‑call roster.

Offer details : An initial offer of remuneration will be made within the range $82,530 - $87,115. The closing date for applications is 9 November 2025.
