Your opportunity

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the legal team’s workload as they progress through key contracting projects. You’ll be involved in a range of legal matters across the DairyNZ organisation, gaining exposure to varied and interesting work. As part of the Corporate Services team, you’ll provide practical legal and commercial support to other teams and the projects they deliver. Your input will help identify risks, support opportunities, and ensure legal considerations are appropriately addressed. Reporting to the Head of Legal, Risk & Intellectual Property, the role is based in our Hamilton office.

Responsibilities

• Support contract and proposal management : Assist in ensuring consistent and effective handling of research and business proposals and contracts across the organisation.
• Provide legal advice : Offer timely and accurate legal support to business partners involved in co-funding and supplier engagements, with guidance from senior legal staff.
• Contribute to risk assessment : Help identify legal and commercial risks in business activities, applying sound judgement to determine the level of input required based on the significance of the matter.
• Work with external advisors : Collaborate with external legal experts on specialist matters to support relevant and practical outcomes for the organisation.
• Influence and negotiate : Participate in stakeholder discussions and negotiations, contributing to positive outcomes while continuing to develop influencing skills.
• Promote collaboration and improvement : Operate with a collaborative mindset and contribute to the ongoing improvement of legal processes and practices.
• Support strategic alignment : Assist in shaping strategies that balance the unique challenges of a sector‑good organisation, legal and commercial risks, and scientific research, under the direction of senior colleagues.

As a team player you'll be the go‑to legal liaison at DairyNZ. You will be able to take initiative, work at pace and have a strong ability to build productive relationships, all while bringing a sense of fun and energy to the role.
