The Role

Reporting to the Property Unit Manager, this role will be responsible for leading a team that provides professional property related advice and property management services as a shared service for the Council. The team is accountable for the management of Council’s Housing for the Elderly Portfolio, office and Service Centre buildings, commercial and investment property interests and Council’s forestry portfolio. You will provide technical and professional leadership for the team, developing capability and capacity, supporting them to deliver efficient and effective property services that meet the needs of their varied Stakeholders. Reporting of key financial and non-financial performance indicators and progressing improvement initiatives form part of this role, as does providing support for the ongoing review of Council’s property portfolio.

Your Skills and Experience

To be successful you will be a strong and successful people leader and will have a proven background in property with skills in advisory and transactional services. You will have a sound knowledge of relevant property related legislation (in particular the Public Works, Reserves, Building and the Local Government Acts) and a good understanding of asset management principles in a local government setting. Your experience will include the provision of cost effective, sustainable facilities that meet the needs of users’ in an appropriate manner. You will be an approachable, professional manager with excellent people skills and be able to build relationships through your strong communication skills and by embracing the principles of Council’s Ta matou mauri - purpose, vision, values and customer promise.
