As a team member within the public health system, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare infrastructure that supports equitable, high-quality outcomes across diverse communities.Whangarei BasedThe Opportunity | Maintenance PainterBased at Whangarei Hospital, the Painter / Gib Stopper is responsible for maintaining and improving the interior environments of the hospital by carrying out high-quality gib stopping, surface preparation, and painting work.
The role ensures that finishes are durable, hygienic, and compliant with healthcare standards while supporting the hospital's goal of providing a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.The hours of work for this role will be 40hrs / week, 8 hours per day between 6 : 00am and 6 : 00pm.Key ResponsibilitiesCarry out gib stopping and painting work to maintain hospital interior spaces, including patient rooms, corridors, clinical areas, and staff facilities.Prepare surfaces by cleaning, repairing, taping, jointing, skimming, and sanding to achieve required finishing levels.Apply paints, coatings, and finishes suitable for hospital environments, ensuring durability, hygiene, and compliance with infection control standards.Repair and touch up wall and ceiling surfaces to maintain a high-quality appearance.Safely operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials.Ensure all work is completed to New Zealand Building Code requirements and hospital specifications.Minimise disruption to hospital operations while carrying out work in sensitive areas.Maintain accurate records of work undertaken and materials used.Adhere to health and safety protocols, including infection prevention and control procedures.Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and project teams to deliver timely, efficient services.What You'll BringTrade qualification in Painting and Decorating, or equivalent relevant experience.Proven experience in gib stopping and interior painting, preferably in commercial or healthcare environments.Ability to deliver high-quality Level 4 and Level 5 finishes.Knowledge of durable, low-VOC, and easy-clean coating systems.Familiarity with working in operational healthcare environments (desirable).
Good communication skills and ability to work respectfully around patients, staff, and visitors.Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively.Current Site Safe card (or willingness to obtain).
Full New Zealand driver's licence (preferred).
