Overview

We have multiple fixed term roles available until 30 June 2026, and permanent opportunities in the Auckland region. These positions can be based in Albany, Henderson, Mt Eden and Manukau offices.

As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework He Pikorua guiding principles, Te Whāriki : Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whāriki a te Kohanga Reo.
  • Build and strengthen the capability of those who support children’s learning, such as parents, teachers and whānau / families.
  • Understand families’ needs, collaboratively plan, support, and monitor the implementation of intervention plans.
  • Support transition points in the child’s learning pathway, including transitions into early childhood education and into school.
  • Work as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.

Salary range : $69,966 - $106,016 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary reflecting individual skills and experience.

About you

To be successful you will need :

  • A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood), and be a fully registered teacher.
  • A post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching : Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position.
  • A few years of teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
  • An understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with learners, whānau / families and teachers across diverse settings.
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
  • A full driver’s licence.
  • To be a New Zealand citizen, resident or holder of a valid working visa.
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

    Te Mahau | Te Tai Raro is a frontline group providing leadership and integrated services to the sector, including learning support, education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services. Learning Support ensures that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their potential through education. Our Learning Support specialists work with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.
