An exciting opportunity for a highlighted skilled investment management professional to join our Investment Management and Strategy (IMS) team as Senior Advisor, Investment Reviews.

IMS is the kaitiaki of New Zealand's Public Service Investment Management System, ensuring it delivers value and intergenerational wellbeing through :

  • enabling well-informed investment decisions.
  • ensuring the system is efficient, effective and sustainable.
  • enabling those with accountabilities across the system to perform their roles effectively.
  • The Gateway Unit is responsible for delivering Gateway Investment Reviews for all investments deemed high-risk according to the Treasury's risk profile assessment. It manages and maintains an expert review panel, supports training for Agencies and future reviewers, and engages with system leads.

    The Senior Advisor role supports Investment Reviews, which help to ensure that investments being undertaken by agencies (programmes and projects in particular) are delivered in scope, on time, within budget and are capable of delivering the benefits expected.

    In this role you will have the opportunity to :

  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior leaders and their teams in government, build rapport and credibility, to ensure that reviews deliver value to their projects and their organisation.
  • Deliver a review work programme within agreed timeframes, within budget and to quality standards
  • Build and develop the pool of New Zealand Gateway reviewers from across the public and private sector.
  • Work collaboratively with Investment Review Team Leaders and senior reviewers with a wealth of experience and insight across both public and private organisations.
  • Ensure reviews maintain a development focus for SROs and provide assurance to Ministers that risks and issues are identified and actively managed.

    The role of Senior Advisor, Investment Reviews is a busy role. To succeed you will need a natural curiosity and to enjoy having interesting conversations, as well as exceptional judgement and ideally a certification in project management methodologies and frameworks, such as PMBOK, PRINCE2, or Managing Successful Programmes (MSP).

    You will have several years' experience of major projects at a senior level. You will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of project management methodologies informed by a number of years of practical experience. Additionally, you will have a track-record of effective communication in both verbal and written form with a variety of stakeholders including senior management. Experience in the EPMO or PMO environment, or in assurance roles would be highly beneficial.

    The specific experience, skills, and qualities that will help you succeed in this role include :

  • Understanding of the Investment Management System and project / programme life cycles and their application.
  • Experience with, and ideally certification in, project management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Critical thinking and analytical ability.
  • Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate clear and concise messages through a range of communication channels.
  • Experience working with complex, ambiguous and risky issues, and applying judgements to those issues.
  • Experience in improving the quality of the work of a team or organisation
  • Excellent organisational skills.
