Commercial & Capability Lead - Procurement, Supply Chain & Health Technology Management

About the Role

As our Commercial Capability Lead , in the Strategy and Enablement Function, you will uplift the technical capability of our people across Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology Management (PSC&HTM), with a particular focus on the Commerical functions, helping ensure our workforce is equipped, confident, and future-ready.

In this role, you will shape and deliver the national approach to technical skill development, building workforce capability frameworks, training pathways, and performance tools that lift commercial excellence across the country. You will partner with leaders to understand capability needs, create targeted development programmes, and embed a culture of continuous learning, accountability and growth.

About the Team / Service / Location

The Procurement, Supply Chain and Health Technology Management (PSC&HTM) team at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora are a national function with a vast and complex scope. They play a critical role in ensuring the availability, safety, and efficiency of clinical and non-clinical goods and services across the health system. Responsible for managing and influencing over $9 billion in annual spend, the team are central to delivering high-quality patient outcomes and standardising product usage across regions.

About you

You are a collaborator, coach and strategic thinker who thrives on helping people and organisations grow. You bring both commercial understanding and human-centred leadership, with the ability to translate workforce and capability goals into practical programmes that lift performance and build confidence across teams.

You will bring :

  • Experience building or uplifting capability in large, complex environments
  • Strong commercial knowledge and understanding of business operations, process and practice
  • An understanding of what excellence in commercial delivery looks like
  • Proven experience delivering workforce, capability, training or talent initiatives
  • Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
  • The ability to influence without authority and work collaboratively across functions
  • Skill in developing commercial training materials, frameworks or tools
  • Strong communication, coaching and facilitation skills
  • Experience working in change environments and supporting people through shifts in ways of working
  • Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments, with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022
