The Assistant Dairy Farm Manager supports the Dairy Cattle Farmer in the day-to-day implementation of dairy farming operations on a sizable dairy unit.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out and coordinate daily milking, animal health routines, and feeding.Assist with supervision of farm staff and casual workers as directed.Maintain farm infrastructure, plant and equipment.Support health and safety, environmental and animal welfare standards.Key Relationships

Carry out and help organize daily milking routines in accordance with farm policies set by the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Operate milking plant and equipment, conduct basic checks and cleaning to required hygiene standards.Monitor cow flow, identify cows needing attention, and promptly report issues to the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Implement mastitis detection and treatment protocols as directed and under supervision.Animal Health, Welfare & Reproduction
Assist with daily observation of the herd for lameness, illness, calving difficulty or other health issues and report promptly to the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Administer animal health treatments (e.g. drenches, vaccines) in line with veterinary and farm protocols approved by the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Assist with calving, calf rearing, and young stock management as instructed.Maintain accurate animal health and treatment records as required by farm procedures and regulatory standards.Feed Management & Pasture Utilisation
Implement feed allocation plans (pasture, supplements) developed and approved by the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Shift breaks, move stock, and set up / follow break fences as instructed.Monitor pasture condition and utilisation and provide feedback to the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Assist with operation of feed-out machinery and equipment (e.g. tractors, feed wagons) within competence and training limits.Farm Maintenance and Infrastructure
Carry out routine maintenance tasks on fences, troughs, races, laneways and sheds.Assist with plant and equipment maintenance (e.g. lubrication, basic servicing) and report any faults requiring specialist repair.Maintain general tidiness of the farm, including effluent areas, sheds and surrounds.Staff Support & Teamwork
Help coordinate work tasks for farm employees and casual staff as delegated by the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Provide on-the-job guidance to less experienced staff in safe work practices and standard operating procedures.Support a positive, respectful team culture and effective communication on farm.Note : Final responsibility for staff management, hiring, performance management and remuneration decisions remains with the Dairy Cattle Farmer / employer.
Compliance, Health & Safety, Environment
Follow all workplace health and safety procedures and ensure safe use of machinery, vehicles and chemicals.Report hazards, near misses and incidents to the Dairy Cattle Farmer and assist with corrective actions.Implement effluent management and environmental practices as instructed to meet regulatory requirements and farm policy.Complete any required record-keeping (e.g. chemical use, effluent checks, health and safety forms) accurately and on time.Farm Planning Support
Provide day-to-day operational feedback (e.g. pasture growth, animal performance, milk production trends) to the Dairy Cattle Farmer.Assist with implementing seasonal work programmes (e.g. calving, mating, drying-off) according to plans developed by the Dairy Cattle Farmer and farm advisers.Attend on-farm meetings and training as requested.#J-18808-Ljbffr
