  • With a strong strategic direction and ambitious growth plans, Argus Heating, have a range of market initiatives for designing new products and evolving their existing products closer to clients’ future needs; for their products to be more environmentally friendly; and to adapt their products so they can be used in other emerging market sectors.

    Longer term, a key driver both from within the Argus Group and their clients is to make their products more environmentally friendly. To do so, products will need to be capable of being refurbished and refitted or made of materials so that at end of life the products break down easier.

    ABOUT THE ROLE

    Innovation and pragmatism are key components of this role. With a strong manufacturing team behind you, your focus is from the design of products through to the client.

    Working closely with the Marketing Product Manager and the Sales Team, you will ensure the products remain leaders in their respective markets and relevant for their individual clients and emerging market sectors. They have several market initiatives and opportunities identified with clients. As the Technical Product Design Lead, your role will be to take these initiatives, consult with clients alongside the sales team and develop conceptual designs for modifications to existing products or new products. Then liaise with the manufacturing team to ensure a seamless design for manufacture.

    You will work across Argus Heating’s full product range, but your initial focus will be on market identified conceptual design initiatives for their key Foil Product.

    Regarding Product Design, this is a senior role, and its remuneration range reflects that. It will appeal to an ambitious Engineer looking to have leadership responsibilities whilst retaining “hands‑on” design input into the product across its full lifecycle.

    There will be a need to accompany the Sales team at times on overseas visits to clients.

    YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    Initially you will be the sole Product / Design Engineer for the product line so you will need to be a confident, assured person who is proactive and a self‑starter with a track record of achieving results in engineering product design and innovation. You will bring a consultative and influencing manner comfortable in a variety of settings which will allow you to work seamless with the client and sales / marketing team through to the manufacturing team.

    TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Technically you will have several of the following :

    • BE or Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering with electrical experience, or Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering with mechanical experience.
    • Mechanical - Knowledge of mechanical design principles.
    • Electrical - Knowledge of electrical principles, electrical safety, and ability to interpret electrical schematics for electromechanical products.
    • Strong competency with 3D CAD. Solidworks is used.
    • Experience in design and development of Electromechanical Products.
    • Understanding of general thermodynamics, and specifically fluid thermodynamics.
    • Nice to have’s include :

    • Knowledge of electrical safety compliance standards, ideally EN / IEC 60335-1 and UL-499.
    • Experience working within quality systems, ISO9001 is used.
    • Demonstrated understanding of lean methods and tools.
