The Ministry of Education New Zealand seeks a Principal Analyst to join a small, high‑performing data science team focused on equity, achievement, progress and attendance. This is a pivotal role for someone who combines technical depth with strategic thinking, and who can guide both the work and the people around them.

Shape evidence that matters. Lead with insight. You’ll work end‑to‑end : engaging with clients to understand their needs, designing and overseeing analytical projects, and ensuring our insights are robust and actionable. You’ll help evaluate programmes, model real‑world problems, and communicate findings to senior leaders and decision‑makers. You’ll also be a mentor and guide, helping to build capability, supporting best practice, and fostering a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement. Your experience in the public sector and ability to navigate political and organisational complexity will be crucial as we build the right evidence sources and make insights meaningful.
Salary range : $119,171 - $144,560 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.
