MAT'S CAFE & KITCHEN LIMITED operates in the café and hospitality industry. We are currently looking for a Cafe Cook to join our team in Whitianga, Waikato. The ideal candidate will be reliable, able to follow instructions, and comfortable working in a fast- paced environment.
Key Duties :
- Prepare, cook, and present a range of menu items—including Mat's Malaysian and Mediterranean dishes—in line with recipes, portion standards, and established procedures.
- Gather, measure, and prepare all required ingredients for daily food preparation, ensuring readiness for service.
- Plan, coordinate, and prioritise cooking tasks to meet customer demand, particularly during peak service times.
- Operate and monitor kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, and food warmers safely and efficiently.
- Ensure food stocks, supplies, and ingredients are maintained at appropriate levels, assist with stock rotation, and report any shortages or replenishment needs.
- Supervise kitchen staff as required and ensure all food produced meets Mat's high standards of taste, presentation, and quality.
- Portion, plate, and present dishes consistently according to company and menu guidelines.
- Adjust dishes when necessary to accommodate simple dietary requests or customer preferences.
- Ensure the kitchen area, equipment, and utensils are cleaned, sanitised, and well maintained in accordance with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic work environment at all times and work efficiently under pressure within required timeframes.
- Provide basic guidance and support to new kitchen staff on food preparation techniques, hygiene, and safe kitchen practices.
Other Requirements for the Role :
Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience.Availability to work on weekends and start early.Physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.Good coordination and time-management abilities.High attention to detail.Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
