Head of department (HoD) Māori

Overview

Christchurch Girls’ High School / Te Kura o Hine Waiora is seeking a passionate and positive head of the Māori department. This is a full-time permanent position. Applicants must be able to teach te reo Māori to our senior students and understand the requirements of NCEA. The successful applicant will also be confident in upholding tikanga Māori.

The HoD Māori will bring extensive life experience and expertise in supporting Māori ākonga, whānau, iwi, and communities. This role incorporates the Kaiāirahi Māori responsibilities needed to support Māori ākonga and whānau, including working alongside leaders of learning and the pastoral team to enhance our care and uphold high expectations for all Māori ākonga. They will lead and advise on culturally responsive organisational practice, which supports Māori to succeed as Māori.

Responsibilities

• Lead and advise on culturally responsive organisational practice to support Māori ākonga, whānau, iwi, and communities.
• Collaborate with leaders of learning and the pastoral team to enhance care and uphold high expectations for Māori ākonga.
• Foster a relational and responsive culture, shaping a future-focused curriculum.
• Promote collaborative teamwork and reflective practice within the Māori department.
• Contribute to school-wide co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and events.
