Product Development Engineer - System Engineering

About the opportunity

At Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, we are driven by a relentless pursuit of innovation that transforms patient care. As we expand the use of one of our key therapies, Optiflow, we are looking for a versatile engineer to join our System Engineering team.

In this role, you’ll contribute towards developing innovative medical devices by applying system‑level thinking to complex engineering challenges. You’ll work across multiple product teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software, drive concept development through prototyping and testing, and support compliance and risk management activities. Your ability to break down high‑level requirements, collaborate effectively across disciplines, and maintain a big‑picture mindset will be key to delivering reliable, high‑quality solutions that improve patient outcomes.

Day‑to‑day activities

As a Product Development Engineer in this role, your day‑to‑day will involve :

• Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to align system‑level design and requirements
• Designing and executing system‑level testing
• Coordinating with external test house for formal compliance testing
• Managing risk and supporting regulatory compliance
• Developing prototypes to evaluate hardware / software solutions
• Creating and maintaining tools to support product development and testing
• Investigating product issues and prototyping solutions for market response
• Project management
