We're looking for a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our Regulatory Services Unit on a 1-year fixed-term contract to cover parental leave.

This is a fast-paced and varied role that offers a great mix of office-based and field work, including visiting food premises and responding to public health concerns.

You'll work with a diverse range of customers and businesses across Hamilton, helping to protect public health and ensure food safety.

What You'll Be Doing

Verifying food control plans at fixed premises, mobile food businesses, and events.

Supporting food businesses with registration and compliance under the Food Act

Responding to public health and food safety complaints, and investigating statutory nuisances under the Health Act

Carrying out enforcement as a warranted Food Safety Officer and Environmental Health Officer.

Qualifications

A qualification as defined in the Environmental Health Officers Qualifications Regulations

Working knowledge of legislation relevant to environmental health professionals

Experience in environmental health and / or food business verification is highly desirable

A full New Zealand driver's licence

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Skilled in building relationships and supporting compliance through effective engagement

Note : While the preference is for a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer, we're also open to applicants who meet the requirements to be recognised as a verifier under the Food Act

Salary will reflect the applicant's qualifications and experience.

What's the salary?

The salary for this role starting salary is $90,000 with flexibility to negotiate depending on qualifications and experience.
