Teach in the Heart of Waikato-Tainui : Uplift, Inspire, and Lead Through Toi Maori
Fraser High School, located in the Waikato, is proud to stand on the whenua of Ngati Mahanga, within the rohe of Waikato-Tainui and under the korowai of Te Kingitanga.
We are a school committed to honouring Whakatupuranga Waikato-Tainui 2050, the long-term iwi development strategy to grow a generation of culturally grounded, educated, and globally connected leaders.
This is more than a teaching role – it is a call to be part of an intergenerational movement that places te reo Maori, tikanga, and mana motuhake at the centre of student identity, learning, and leadership.
We are seeking a skilled and passionate kaiako with proven expertise in Maori performing arts – such as kapa haka, waiata – and strong proficiency in te reo Maori me ona tikanga.
The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of matauranga, kaupapa and tikanga Maori, be confident in supporting students to connect with their iwi, hapu, and whenua, and will contribute meaningfully to Fraser's cultural life – including kapa haka, powhiri, Matariki, poukai, wananga and Maori student leadership pathways.
This role directly supports the aspirations of Whakatupuranga Waikato-Tainui 2050 by empowering akonga to stand confidently in both te ao Maori and te ao whanui, nurturing future iwi leaders and kaitiaki.
Fraser is a diverse and well-resourced secondary school of approximately 1,500 akonga.
We are proud of our strong and growing Maori cohort, our restorative and whanau-centred approach, and our relationship with iwi, hapu, and kaupapa Maori organisations across the Waikato.
