Join Rotorua Lakes Council and play a vital role in safeguarding our environment. We are looking for an initiative‑taking Stormwater Licensing Officer to support and deliver our industrial stormwater licensing programme. While you’ll work independently in the field most of the time, you’ll have guidance and oversight from our Water Quality Scientist. This is a unique opportunity to play a critical part in protecting Rotorua’s waterways.
What you’ll do :
You will be responsible for administering and maintaining Council’s industrial stormwater licensing process. You will process licence applications and risk assessments, enforce licensing requirements, conduct inspections and audits, and respond to industrial pollution incidents. You will collaborate with internal teams and contribute to environmental monitoring, data analysis, and reporting. You will work closely with site owners, occupiers, and the Regional Council to promote best practice and prevent contaminants from entering our stormwater network. Your technical expertise will guide compliance decisions, and your ability to communicate clearly will help educate and support businesses in meeting environmental standards.
What we’re looking for :
We are seeking someone with a tertiary qualification in environmental science, engineering, chemistry, or applied science, along with a solid understanding of New Zealand’s environmental legislation. You will need strong analytical skills, confidence in making decisions in the field, and the ability to work independently while building collaborative relationships. A full New Zealand driver’s licence is essential.
