Game Designer II

Deep Field Games is looking for an experienced Game Designer II to join our New Zealand-based team.

Responsibilities

  • Help create, oversee and balance game features and mechanics in current and future projects.
  • Work closely with the Design Director and code team to develop new features and improve existing ones.
  • Monitor community feedback and filter suggestions from the community for potential implementation into the game.

Qualifications

  • Intermediate proficiency with Unreal Engine interface and data structures.
  • Experience designing game features on at least one commercially-released game project.
  • Moderate understanding of design principles, game mechanics, player psychology, and basic design theory.
  • Experience with production software (Jira, Trello, etc.).
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within established pipelines and project scope.
  • Strong work ethic and collaborative attitude.
  • Capable of working independently with some oversight.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when writing design documentation intended for programmers or other team members of other disciplines.

    • Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Blueprint design and / or scripting languages for prototyping and implementing game mechanics, including UE5 Behavior Trees.
  • Experience with design for first-person shooters and survival crafting games.

  • Competitive contract : up to $90K (NZD) (depending on experience).
