We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Aotearoa New Zealand History to a full‑time, permanent position commencing from 01 January 2026 (or later by negotiation).

The successful candidate will contribute initially to undergraduate teaching in one of our existing 2026 courses in Aotearoa New Zealand history. Looking ahead, we expect the appointee to develop their teaching, supervision, and research in ways that engage with the peoples and places of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. We also seek colleagues who can help build our strategic collaborations with external partners such as iwi, cultural institutions, and civic bodies across the region. Proficiency in te reo Māori, or a willingness to build such proficiency, is highly desirable.

The workload allocation for this position is 40 % teaching, 40 % research, and 20 % service.

This is a full‑time (40 hours per week), permanent role.

The remuneration range is $97,831 – $116,867, depending on qualifications and experience.

About you

Applicants should hold a PhD in History or a closely related field by the time of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate the capacity for productive, high‑quality research, as well as experience in successful undergraduate teaching and readiness to undertake postgraduate supervision.
