Category Specialist – IT procurement (fixed term 12-month)

About The Team
Within our Corporate Services Division, led by the CFO, the Procurement and Supply Team provides a centre-led procurement function that works to achieve enterprise-level outcomes from over $450 million of procurement spend per annum across 1,600 suppliers.
The team empowers a more sustainable energy future for New Zealand by providing expert procurement and commercial management capability, enabling supply-chain functions to our operational divisions, and driving both financial and non-financial benefits over the long term.
The Opportunity
As Category Specialist – IT, covering parental leave, you will support the Commercial Management team responsible for the sustained delivery of benefits across one of our key spends by delivering category strategies across the IT portfolio.
Your work will cover a range of related products – software licences, hardware and IT services such as installation, testing and training – and you may, from time to time, provide support in other procurement categories.
You will support the execution of procurement strategies, including market analysis, sourcing models and analysis, reporting, supplier relationships and product plans across the whole procurement lifecycle.
You will lead or provide support to various procurements, maintain effective supplier relationships and develop technical knowledge of our IT division and technology.
Responsibilities
Provide specialist IT procurement support across software, licences, hardware and IT services.
Support execution of procurement strategies through market analysis, sourcing models, reporting and supplier relationship management.
Develop and maintain technical knowledge of our IT division and technology.
Lead or support procurements, ensuring effective supplier relationships and timely delivery.
Assist in other procurement categories as required.
Qualifications
Core
Proven experience providing robust specialist procurement support across end-to-end IT procurements.
Strong commercial acumen, negotiation skills and supplier-relationship management.
Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to extract, analyse and use data to create business cases and executive-level presentations.
Sound understanding of procurement principles : sourcing, category and demand management.
Additional Skills
Category management reporting to demonstrate savings, cost mitigation, opportunities and risk identification.
Experience supporting multiple procurements simultaneously.
High-level communication, engagement and relationship skills, including advocacy and influencing with international suppliers.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Understanding of Government Procurement Rules, probity and experience in the Electricity Transmission, Construction or IT sectors is advantageous.
