Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Open Spaces and Facilities Manager to join the Community Services group at Upper Hutt City Council.

The Open Spaces and Facilities Manager will oversee the day-to-day operation of the parks, reserves and facilities activity including management of the team.

This is a key role within Council, reporting to the Group Manager, where you will get the opportunity to help shape the future of parks, reserves and community facilities for the Upper Hutt community.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring an appetite for a diverse portfolio, with exceptional leadership, communication, operational delivery and collaboration skills to work across your team’s range of functions.

This role will prepare annual operating budgets, maintain an overview of leases and lease negotiations associated with open spaces and facilities. The role will also oversee Councils asset management plans and reserve management plans along with the oversight of Councils vehicle fleet. This role will also be responsible for the management and operation of the Akatarawa Cemetery.

Our ideal person needs to be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and the wider community.

The Open Spaces and Facilities Manager reports to the Group Manager Community Services.

The ideal candidate will have :

  • A tertiary qualification, or relevant experience, in parks, reserves, facility management or similar.
  • A strong and capable people leader to manage effective delivery of diverse work programmes, supporting a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • A strong financial / budgeting and project management background.
  • Exceptional relationshipbuilding, communication, risk management and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in managing a responsive, customer-focused open spaces and facilities service delivery team.
