Rotorua Lakes Council is looking for a hands-on, motivated leader to guide our Asset Services team in maintaining and improving the city’s parks, reserves, and public spaces. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in the outdoors, enjoys leading by example, and takes pride in creating safe, well-maintained community environments.
Reporting to the Asset and Services Manager, you’ll lead a team of around seven, overseeing maintenance and minor construction of council assets such as playgrounds, bridges, shelters, and park furniture. You’ll plan and deliver maintenance programmes, respond to service requests, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Collaboration is key — you’ll work with internal teams, contractors, community groups, and iwi partners to keep projects running smoothly and deliver great results for Rotorua. Strong leadership, communication, and planning skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of asset maintenance and health and safety compliance.
We’re seeking someone with a trade qualification in building, carpentry, or a related field, and at least 3–5 years’ experience in construction or landscaping. Supervisory experience, a current driver’s license, and safety certifications are highly desirable.
