Role Overview

Assist Auckland Council as a full‑time Democracy Advisor within the Governance and Engagement Department and the Local Board Services team. The primary focus is on the Waiheke local board cohort, with the role based on the island.

He angitūtanga : The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Governance and Engagement Department has an opportunity for a full‑time Democracy Advisor to join the Local Board Services team, with a primary focus on the Waiheke cohort. This role will therefore be based on the island.

Responsibilities

  • Support and advise Waiheke Local Board members and the team on core democratic services.
  • Schedule and prepare for public meetings, forums and workshops; notify attendees and produce high‑quality agendas, minutes and workshop records.
  • Monitor and follow up on resolutions from meetings and action points from workshops within the organisation.
  • Assist with scheduling, organising and delivery of local board community consultation, engagement meetings and events.

Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships with local board members, colleagues and community groups.
  • Good understanding of local government legislation, council practices and constraints.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with council systems is a bonus.
  • Self‑motivated, high initiative, able to balance competing demands and flexible for evening meetings.
