About the role

This new role within the digital team will lead and manage the development and delivery of Watercare's operational technology portfolio.

This role will ensure the effective integration of digital solutions into Watercare's operational processes, enhancing service delivery, sustainability, and innovation across water and wastewater networks.

The role will focus on control systems projects to optimize automation and monitoring capabilities using technologies such as DeltaV Distributed Control System (DCS), SCADA systems, and Nozomi Networks, as well as utilising innovative technologies to overcome geographical and connectivity challenges.

As a key leader in the Digital Delivery team, you will manage a diverse portfolio of Control Systems projects, ensuring alignment with Watercare's business strategy, regulatory requirements, and the wider digital objectives.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the OT project portfolio, overseeing the successful delivery of projects, from planning and execution to completion and handover.

Develop and maintain the forward view of the OT portfolio, developing future year plans and budgets alongside the operations and planning teams.

Ensure that OT solutions are integrated seamlessly with existing IT systems, aligning with Watercare's digital strategy and operational goals.

Stay up to date with advancements in OT, IoT and other relevant technologies to ensure Watercare remains at the forefront of digital transformation in the water sector.

Lead own projects as required.

Ensure that effective project control, change control, risk management and quality management processes are maintained across the portfolio.

Oversees vendor management and procurement processes to ensure the best solutions and services are delivered.

Develops and reviews contracts and SOWs ensuring attention to detail and clearly articulated deliverables which provide maximum value for money for Watercare.

Manages to SOWs to successful completion.

Monitors and controls resources, opex, and capital costs for the OT portfolio against the portfolio budget and manages expectations of all project stakeholders in relation to costs of work.

Qualifications

Tertiary level qualification in an appropriate discipline, Engineering, Technology or related field

Project Management qualification (Prince2, PMP)

Proven experience (5+ years) in managing operational technology portfolios, preferably in a utilities or infrastructure setting.

5 years' demonstrable experience in delivering large (budgets >

$3M) complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within budget.

Strong understanding of water and wastewater operational processes, with a focus on the application of digital technologies in this sector.

Knowledge of SCADA systems, industrial control systems (ICS), IoT, and data management platforms.

Familiarity with health and safety standards, compliance, and regulatory frameworks in New Zealand's utility sector, with proven experience managing health and safety on-site.

Strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, with knowledge of workplace safety practices and incident response.
