Special Education Advisor – Permanent Full‑time

Location : Porirua, NZ

FTE : 1.0

Job Type : Permanent

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

We have one permanent, full‑time Special Education Advisor position (1.0 FTE) based in our Porirua regional office. The role will primarily work within the local area with flexibility to support the Greater Wellington region as business needs require. You will join a supportive trans‑disciplinary team where whanaungatanga and responsive working are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance inclusive practices in schools and other educational settings.
  • Provide professional support and guidance to schools, teachers and families, building the capacity of those best placed to support the learning of children and young people.
  • Offer appropriate specialist assessment and analysis for collaboratively planned, evidence‑informed interventions.
  • Work as part of a trans‑disciplinary team when a child’s needs are complex.
  • Possibly engage in project work, individual casework, targeted (group) work, and universal (systems level) work.
  • Embrace creative thinking and collaborate with others to ensure positive outcomes for students.

Salary

Salary range : $69,966 – $106,016 per annum + 3% kiwisaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary reflecting individual skills and experience.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A relevant primary or secondary teaching qualification. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with students with additional needs.
  • Ability to develop and interact effectively with people of other cultures, recognising identity, language and culture as a source of strength.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or willingness to gain an understanding of, Te Ao Māori and the promotion of tikanga and Te Reo Māori.
  • Skill in translating practitioner knowledge into practical information to upskill adults around a child.
  • Coordinating service provision in a multi‑agency, trans‑disciplinary setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people, their families and teachers across diverse settings.
  • A full current driver’s licence is essential; travel across the Wairarapa region is required.
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
