About Us
At Basis , we’re not just building a company — we’re building the future. We’re redesigning the electrical systems that power our homes to fight climate change, reduce household costs, and create a better future for generations to come. That means rethinking everything, not just what we build, but how we build it.
To do this, we need incredible people. People who are bold, creative, sharp, and thoughtful. People who care. People who move fast and think differently. That’s where you come in.
The Role
We’re looking for a System Integration Engineer who loves sitting at the crossroads of cloud and embedded systems. You’ll explore, prototype, and ultimately integrate third‑party energy hardware and APIs — everything from EV chargers to batteries — into our platform. This is a role for someone who gets energized by figuring things out, especially when the blueprint is still being defined.
Responsibilities
- Rapidly integrating third‑party energy devices (EV chargers, solar inverters, batteries, and more) by building and validating early API connections
- Creating proof‑of‑concept backend services and prototypes to demonstrate new capabilities and uncover technical constraints
- Investigating device quirks, connection challenges, and vendor docs to make hardware come alive in our ecosystem
- Turning successful prototypes into production‑ready, scalable integrations built on modern cloud infrastructure
- Collaborating with senior engineers to develop reliable services with strong observability, CI / CD, and operational resilience
- Maintaining and supporting the integrations you’ve built to keep them healthy and high‑performing in the field
- Producing clear documentation to support long‑term ownership, knowledge‑sharing, and ongoing maintenance
About You
Strong experience with backend development using languages like Go, Python, or Node.js, plus deploying services on cloud platformsConfidence integrating RESTful APIs, authentication flows (e.g., OAuth), and working with formats like JSONA hands‑on mindset—comfortable in Linux environments, and keen to tinker with embedded systems or physical hardwareA knack for debugging across the full stack, from physical device behaviour to cloud service logicAbility to adapt quickly, solve problems creatively, and learn independently when documentation is limitedSolid collaboration skills, especially when working across disciplines and business unitsA basic understanding of electrical concepts like voltage, power, and AC / DCComfort working through ambiguity and shaping solutions from early prototypesSome Nice‑to‑Haves
Experience with Go in productionKnowledge of embedded or industrial protocols like Modbus or CAN busFamiliarity with IoT standards such as MQTT, BLE, or MatterA personal or professional interest in energy hardware (EV chargers, solar / battery systems, etc.)Research shows that while men apply for jobs when they meet ~60% of the job criteria, women and other marginalised groups tend to apply only when they check every box. So if you think you have what it takes, but are not sure you check every box, we still want to hear from you
