About The Role

An exciting opportunity exists to join our team of Aquarists at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium. The Full Time Assistant Aquarist position involves assisting the Curatorial department with the day-to-day running of the aquarium; it also involves working primarily with salt and freshwater fish habitats.

The aquarium is home to a variety of freshwater and saltwater fish, crustaceans, Tuatara and Penguins as well as acting as a rehabilitation facility for marine sea turtles. You will have the chance to not only care for these amazing animals, but also to promote education and conservation through providing a unique experience for our visitors.

About You

You are an exceptional communicator, solution focused, and able to work well in a successful and collaborative team. You have a flexible and adaptable approach, high attention to detail, and strong organisational and time management skills.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Exceptional attention to detail and delivery of immaculately clean displays
  • Excellent observation, organisational, record keeping and communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, making the most of a challenging or unfamiliar environment
  • Current New Zealand working rights
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, balance, climb heights up to 4 m and carry and lift up to 30 kg

Desirable Requirements

  • SCUBA certification : Rescue Diver, Dive Master, Dive Instructor or commercial diving qualification
  • Ability to pass and maintain an occupational dive medical certification
  • Knowledge and practical experience within the aquarium industry
  • Marine animal husbandry knowledge
  • First Aid and / or Oxygen Resuscitation training
  • Computer skills using MS Office and Excel
