Job Description
Diesel Mechanics service, repair, and maintain diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. They diagnose faults, carry out mechanical and electrical work, replace or repair components, and ensure machinery operates efficiently and safely.
Role Overview
We are looking for qualified Diesel Mechanics to work across commercial, agricultural, transport, and industrial sectors. This role involves inspecting, maintaining, and repairing diesel engines and associated systems, performing diagnostic testing, and ensuring compliance with
safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose faults in diesel engines and related systems (fuel, exhaust, cooling,transmission, electrical etc.).
- Repair, rebuild or replace components such as fuel injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, filters, starters, etc.
- Perform scheduled servicing : oil changes, coolant flushes, filter replacements.
- Maintain and repair vehicle and equipment electrical systems and controls.
- Conduct inspections and safety / emission compliance checks.
- Use diagnostic tools, software, and testing equipment.
- Maintain workshop tools, clean work environment, ensure safety and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Collaborate with team members / supervisors; liaise with clients on repairs and cost estimates.
Requirements
Qualifications
Relevant trade certificate or diploma in Diesel Mechanics / Heavy Automotive / Mechanical Engineering Technician / similar.Formal training / apprenticeship in mechanical or diesel systems preferred.Experience
At least 2–4 years’ experience working on diesel engines / vehicles / equipment.Experience in diagnostics; repair and rebuilding of heavy vehicle or industrial machinery.Skills
Strong technical / mechanical aptitude; good understanding of engine systems, electrical, hydraulic, transmission etc.Proficient in using diagnostic tools and interpreting technical diagrams.Attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills.Physically fit; ability to handle heavy parts, work in workshops, possibly at heights or confined spaces.Good safety awareness; ability to adhere to safety, emissions, and environmental regulations.Good communication skills; able to explain issues to clients or team.Working Conditions & Other Requirements
Usually based in workshops or depots; may travel to worksites for breakdowns or field service.Work may involve exposure to noise, fumes, dirt, harsh weather (if field work).May require shift work, weekend work, or being on-call depending on employer and emergency breakdowns.Use of protective equipment (gloves, ear protection, eye protection etc.) is requiredPlease note : English Certificate is mandatory (PTE / IELTS).

Indicative pay : Starting from NZD $31.61 per hour (as per INZ median wage requirement),
