Family Home Relievers Hamilton and Tauranga

2 casual positions available to join our team as a Family Home reliever in the Waikato region.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

Waikato operates 5 Family Homes where 1 to 5 tamariki are cared for by 2 Family Home Caregivers. When caregivers take breaks of 2 to 15 days, Family Home Relievers maintain a safe, caring, responsible, and supportive family environment 24 / 7. Our Family Homes are smoke-free, so please consider this when applying.

The reliever role includes cooking, shopping, recreation, helping with homework, and supervision. At the start of each shift, a detailed handover is provided, and a designated social worker from our team liaises with each home, offering regular clinical supervision. Care plans are in place for tamariki, and relievers are expected to ensure activities align with these plans and handover instructions.

Ideal candidates are flexible to be available 24 hours a day for at least 4 consecutive days and committed to maintaining a supportive family environment.

The role may suit those seeking occasional work or more regular hours, depending on availability.

Key requirements of the role include :

  • Current full, clean driver’s license (Restricted license okay if obtained prior to starting)
  • Ability to pass police and Oranga Tamariki vetting (the 'clean slate' policy does not apply)
  • Professional references from current and previous employers
  • Experience in social services or working with children and youth is advantageous
  • Understanding of cross-cultural practices, Tikanga Māori, and Pacific cultures
  • Resilience to support children with varied needs
  • Positive role modeling
  • Calm, professional manner
  • Excellent listening, oral, observation skills, and ability to write handover notes
