Otago is famous for its residential college communities supporting thousands of mostly first-year students as they begin their tertiary journey at the University of Otago. Aquinas College is a residential college owned and operated by the University of Otago, nestled in a tranquil corner of the suburb of Dalmore and boasting commanding views of the campus and Dunedin city. Aquinas College is home to 224 mostly first year undergraduate students and provides a caring collegiate experience with an emphasis on fostering community, wellbeing and achievement. The Tautiaki-Kaiāwhina plays a central role in sharing the Aquinas manaakitanga to everyone. Our main aim is to foster a strong sense of whanaungatanga as an essential foundation for learning and personal growth of Aquinas tauira.
Role
Tautiaki-Kaiāwhina (Assistant Wardens) are key members of the College pastoral and welfare team. With a focus on wellbeing / oraka, they provide culturally appropriate opportunities for residents to experience cultural, sporting, academic and personal development in a positive college environment.

The current vacancy is a permanent, full time “live-out” (accommodation is not provided) position based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin. Due to the nature of the role, required hours of work are rostered across evenings and weekends. The salary level for this position is provisionally evaluated as Level 5 ($69,931 to $74,609. Top of Range $80,285) and is subject to change. You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this job. From time to time, you may be deployed to different colleges to suit the needs of the Division. This may include leave coverage, conference support, assistance with summer business such as “Hands on Otago”, Summer School, etc. The University is committed to meeting its obligations under the Children’s Act 2014 and the Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021.
