    About the role

    Would you like to join a dynamic team where you can make a significant impact in your role as a Lactation Consultant?

    An opportunity has become available for a part-time Lactation Consultant to join our organisation.

    This is a unique opportunity to join a specialised and passionate team committed to the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) standards.

    As a Lactation Consultant, you will contribute to the maternity wards mahi, providing expert breastfeeding support and education to mothers, babies, whanau, and staff.

    In this exciting role, you will join a team who facilitate an environment fostering breastfeeding promotion, protection and support for all women.

    About us

    Our lactation consultant team operate in a busy tertiary maternity ward

    • births a year) which also welcome whanau transferred from our Primary Maternity Units across the district (Oamaru, Alexandra, Wanaka, Queenstown, Balclutha, Gore, Winton).
    • Dunedin hospital provides level 3 NICU cots also.

      This role would suit someone who is team-focused and who enjoys getting involved in care planning and a variety of tasks, to ensure the very best care is provided at all times.

      To thrive in this role, you will have the following :

    • Midwifery, Nursing, or Allied Health registration
    • International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
    • Minimum one year experience as a Lactation Consultant
    • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and lead clinical change
    • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor and educate staff across disciplines
    • Strong understanding of BFHI principles and commitment to family-centred care
    • Proven ability to translate clinical learnings into practice for both patients and colleagues
    • Experience in developing and reviewing clinical policies and procedures
    • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to integrated care planning
    • Extensive knowledge and core understanding of Te Tiriti principles and Tikanga a
    • Proficient computer literacy
    • A broad knowledge of the health and disability sector and knowledge of relevant health related legislation
