Retail NZ is a member-based organization providing business updates, advice, advocacy, financial savings, upskilling and insights to retailers across Aotearoa.

We're New Zealand's peak body for retailers, accounting for nearly 70% of all domestic retail turnover.

New Zealand's retail sector comprises approximately 30,000 businesses and employs around 227,000 kiwis.

We have a current vacancy for a full-time Manager of Advocacy, Advice & Communication.

The key purpose of this role is to ensure the voice of retail is heard at the highest levels and secure the best public policy outcomes for retailers.

Employment type : Full-time.

Seniority level : Mid-Senior level.

What will you be doing?

The role entails managing a team responsible for research and policy development, marketing and our advice service.

Additionally, the successful candidate will lead our submissions to government, media relations, working closely with the CEO on a range of projects and engaging with Government Ministers and officials to influence policy.

Key responsibilities include (but not limited to) :

Advocacy and Government Relations - staying abreast of all Government policy activity that has an impact on retail.

Preparing submissions and engaging with our members to identify their key areas of challenge.

Development and updating of key Position Statements reflecting the needs of retailers.

Media and Communications - Develop and deliver on the media strategy, working closely with the CEO who is the face of Retail NZ for media engagement.

Retail NZ have a high level of media engagement (1,137 appearances in 12 months), which requires pro-active and reactive management to ensure that we are representing our members interests.

Policy submissions - Develop submissions and manage the Analyst whose role includes researching and analyzing policy issues affecting the retail sector, including legislative changes, regulatory proposals and industry standards.

Advice - Manage and support the Advice Service that provides advice, tools and resources to members via phone, email and through our member portal.

Marketing - Actively manage the marketing strategy to ensure we are continuing to deliver against our key priorities for members and partners.

Events - Lead and manage the delivery of key Retail NZ events.
