This position is based at the Wellington District Court and reports directly to the Service Manager. The District Court Scheduler will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Ministry remains dedicated to prioritizing and organizing cases throughout the District Court jurisdictions. You will be tasked with coordinating court hearings across various courts within the region. Travel to other courts within the Wellington region is expected.

The role involves close collaboration with Regional Scheduling Advisors to uphold court schedules and guarantee the seamless daily functions of scheduling within the Wellington Judicial Region. You will engage closely with Court Registry Officers, Managers, Judicial Officers, and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to National Scheduling priorities, facilitate effective prioritization of cases, and optimize hearing time. This position enhances workflow management and overall court performance.

The District Court Scheduler will be responsible for the following :

  • Ensuring a consistent approach to scheduling of cases
  • Supporting Ministry of Justice focus areas by prioritising and scheduling cases / hearings across a JSA and participating in reporting on key focus areas
  • Ensuring that the appropriate type and volume of work is scheduled
  • Utilising courtroom and allocation of judicial resources efficiently
  • Promoting consistent scheduling practices and use of technology
  • Maintaining knowledge of facilities and scheduling issues for each court
  • Working collaboratively with judicial officers, registry staff and stakeholders across multiple courts

This position is primarily set within our Family and Civil jurisdiction; however, we anticipate opportunities to expand your knowledge to support other jurisdictions at times.

To be successful, you will need :

  • Great attention to detail
  • Able to establish strong rapport with staff from several sites and confidently manage relationships across varying levels of responsibility
  • Able to think laterally to maximise available resources
  • Confidently provide reporting and insights to registry and judiciary to support continuous improvement in scheduling and case management performance
  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets
  • Experience with court processes

    Utu ā-tau / Salary

    The appointing salary band for this role will be between $66,066 and $90,008 based on skills and experience.
