Are you a Social Worker who is interested in working with our taiohi and doing 'whatever it takes' on a daily basis to help them flourish?

We provide health and wellbeing services working with local community support to help taiohi aged 12 to 24 develop life skills and build strong connections, including their school, employer, whanau, and friends.

Real, our youth services provider, has a range of services to meet the needs of taiohi and their whanau.

These services have been developed with and for taiohi, to reflect what matters to them.

We're continuing to expand our services across the motu to meet the ongoing needs of taiohi in our communities.

This is a full-time role based in New Plymouth.

You will be working Monday – Friday, 8am– 4 : 30pm.

We're looking for a Social Worker preferably with experience in the Youth sector to join our Whetu Marewa service.

In Taranaki we offer youth respite and Whetu Marewa services.

Whetu Marewa means 'rising star' and is our access and choice programme for young people.

The name reflects the taiohi this service supports and the potential our young people have to live healthy and happy lives.

This service aims to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing in taiohi who may be living with mild to moderate mental health, or challenges from alcohol or other drug usage, or social stressors.

Whetu Marewa is community based, which means we can come to you, or host you at our base, providing support from clinicians and youth workers.

Responsibilities & Experience

We're looking for an experienced registered Social Worker with 5+ years of relevant experience in mental health and to join our Real Youth Service in Taranaki.

This service provides assessment, therapy and support to young people and their whanau.

It is a brief and early intervention service based in the community.

You will align with our tikanga (principles) and kawa (practice) and support the clinical components of Whetu Marewa - Primary Mental Health.

We provide both individual and group therapy and support sessions from our office, local schools or out in the community.

Preferred qualifications

A current practicing certificate

5+ years of experience working in mental health is preferred.

An understanding of local community issues and of tikanga Maori.

Ability to develop and maintain internal and external key relationships.

Uphold the integrity and mana of both the taiohi and kaupapa.

The ability to work independently and innovatively to engage young people / taiohi and whanau.

An inspiring and enthusiastic outlook on life.

Additional requirements

Full New Zealand driver's license

Current First Aid Certificate

Knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
