  • About the Role
  • We currently have several opportunities available to join our team as a
  • Public Health Nurse.
  • These are permanent roles, with various positions available between 0.6 and 1.0FTE.In this role, you will deliver public health nursing services across the community.
  • Public health nursing includes assessment of population health, attention to the multiple determinants of health, an emphasis on primary prevention, and continued commitment to best evidence-based public health nursing practice.We value diversity and equity in our workforce and are committed to reflecting the communities we serve.

  • About the Team / Service / Location
  • The public health nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and works towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga / wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention.
  • We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

  • About you
  • You understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role.
  • You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach –try new approaches, learn quickly, and adapt fast.

    You can utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse.
  • Preferably 3+ years clinical experience, although other levels of experience, including New Graduate Nurses, will be considered.
  • Be prepared to work towards, or already are, an authorised vaccinator.
  • Able to demonstrate clinical expertise and sound clinical judgement.
  • Hold a currently assessed nursing portfolio as assessed via an approved Professional Development Recognition Programme (PDRP) or working towards completion within an agreed timeframe.
  • Preferably, Child and Adolescent health-related experience; however, experience in other relevant settings is considered.
  • Ability to work within a team and autonomously in a rural setting.
  • Preferably, experience and competence using Patient Management Systems.
  • An eye for detail and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Full, clean New Zealand driver's licence.
