We operate with significant autonomy : the local team manages its own suppliers of produce and food items, develops menu options tailored to community preferences, and delivers a distinctive customer experience that reflects both the brand's identity and local culture.
Due to the store owner's growing family commitments, we are now seeking a capable hospitality professional to take charge of day-to-day operations and ensure consistent, high-quality performance across all aspects of the café.
About the position
This position is responsible for managing the smooth and efficient operation of Black & White Coffee Cartel Rolleston.
The role requires a capable hospitality professional who can lead the team, uphold brand standards, and make independent operational decisions to ensure excellent customer experiences and strong overall performance.

Summary of key responsibilities (including but not limited to) :
Operational Management – Plan, organise, and manage all aspects of café operations, including front-of-house services, kitchen, staffing, workflow efficiency, and service standards.Business Planning & Financial Control – Develop and implement operational plans; monitor revenue, costs, and profit margins; determine and control store menu pricing (in line with franchisor approval protocols), supplier contracts, and purchasing budgets to ensure the café's financial performance aligns with targetsProcurement Management – Evaluate and select local suppliers for produce and food items; negotiate prices, maintain stock levels, and ensure product quality and consistency.Staff Leadership & Training – Recruit, train, and motivate both FOH and kitchen team members; build a strong service culture that reflects both the brand's values and local community expectations.Menu & Product Development – Exercise local discretion to tailor menu items, food offerings, and promotional activities to Rolleston's customer base; ensure all items meet food safety and quality standards.Stakeholder Management – Maintain professional relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including café team, customers, suppliers, property management, equipment maintenance providers, Food Safety Verifiers, Local Council, and WorkSafe NZ etc.Customer Relations & Marketing – Build customer loyalty through quality service and engagement; plan and organise seasonal promotions, special functions and community event to strengthen brand presence in the local community.Compliance & Risk Management – Oversee health, safety, and food-hygiene compliance; maintain documentation for audits and inspections; ensure alignment with franchise and legal obligations.Key requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have :
A bachelor's degree or higher in Hospitality Management, Business, Management, or a related field.A minimum of two years of work experience in the café or hospitality industry, including experience in Front-of-House (FOH) operations and assisting in management.Strong understanding of café operations, internal systems, and New Zealand café-style menus and food offerings.Excellent communication and stakeholder management skillsDemonstrated problem-solving, and customer service abilities.A passion for café culture and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer experiences.If you are passionate about great coffee, genuine hospitality, and leading a team to success, we invite you to join us at Black & White Coffee Cartel Rolleston.
