Application Developer – Workflow Automation

A leading customs brokerage is seeking an experienced Application Developer to design and implement a document processing workflow system with integrated chatbot functionality. The role focuses on automating document handling, incorporating human approval steps, and ensuring a seamless customer experience through a chatbot interface and automated email responses. The ideal candidate will deliver a robust, trackable service event log, supporting operational transparency and efficiency. This is a remote, project‑based opportunity with the potential for future collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a document processing workflow system tailored to customs brokerage operations
  • Integrate human approval steps within the workflow to ensure compliance and accuracy
  • Develop and deploy a customer‑facing chatbot capable of handling inquiries and automating email responses
  • Implement a comprehensive, trackable service event log for all workflow activities
  • Utilize n8n for workflow automation, ensuring scalability and maintainability
  • Integrate MySQL databases for secure data storage and retrieval
  • Write and maintain Python and PHP scripts to support system functionality
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs
  • Provide technical documentation and user support as required

Skills and Requirements

  • Proven experience in workflow automation and document processing systems
  • Proficiency with n8n, MySQL, Python, and PHP
  • Strong understanding of chatbot integration and automated communication workflows
  • Ability to design systems with human‑in‑the‑loop approval processes
  • Experience developing trackable event logs and audit trails
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills for remote collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high‑quality results within agreed timelines
