The role emphasizes community focus and is supported by excellent hospital infrastructure.Paediatric Service at Timaru HospitalThe work involves general paediatrics, from neonates to adolescents, with a large outpatient component.
It is a hands-on role with small inpatient numbers.
There are no registrars, but junior doctors and trainee interns are part of the team.
You will collaborate with a small Child Development Team and community providers, supported by good clinical systems and obstetric cover.Neonatal care is provided in a Level 1 unit with high dependency cots.
A recently built Transitional Care Unit offers five rooms for mother and baby, with plans for expansion.
The pediatrics ward has been refurbished to include eight beds.
Tertiary support for most paediatric subspecialties is available within two hours' drive.Timaru Hospital serves a district population of approximately 50,000 and provides critical 24 / 7 services including ED, ICU / CCU, surgery, O&G, psychiatry, geriatrics, oncology, palliative care, internal medicine, and paediatrics.Why Timaru and South Canterbury?
