ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Electrical Engineer at Asteria, you’ll develop custom electrical hardware and firmware to enable our clients to achieve their goals, on earth, in space, or somewhere in between.

You will be an essential part of our friendly team. As a small team, each person makes a huge impact you’ll be able to see the difference you make. In this dynamic and exciting role, you’ll find a broad range of electrical engineering opportunities and be a part of our domestic and international customers' journeys from concept to manufacture.

You will manage projects from start to finish. You’ll work closely with our clients, using your awesome communications and customer service skills to understand their goals and how we can help them. You’ll design and produce schematics, circuit boards, and products for some of New Zealand’s key aerospace and harsh environment organisations. You will be responsible for building trusted relationships with clients and having a deep understanding of their goals and product needs. You will provide sound advice to clients and work closely with them to develop and integrate products.

This role is ideal for someone who likes to do something a little different each week. Someone who enjoys variety, can manage their time and multiple projects effectively, and enjoys a creative challenge. Someone who works efficiently and effectively on their own, but loves a good brainstorming or problems solving session with the team. Someone who enjoys working with people. Someone who is passionate, hardworking and is excited to build something new—something that could go to space!

This is a full-time position, though for the right candidate we’d be happy to discuss part time options. You must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand to apply. Given the tangible nature of hardware development, we’re looking for someone who can come into the office in Christchurch, though we are able to flexible when required.

ABOUT YOU

You are passionate about what you do. You love tinkering and problem solving. Once you start something, you like to see it through and deliver the best quality results. You have strong communication skills and enjoy meeting with clients for a coffee and a chat. You have great attention to detail and time management, and enjoy opportunities to be creative and build something new.

We’re looking for someone who can take initiative. Who works well independently and with little direct supervision, but who knows when to bring in a team member for consultation and enjoys working with others. Someone who loves variety, working on and managing multiple projects at once.

Someone who wants to make a difference, see the aerospace industry and our clients grow.

You will have :

  • At least 2 years of relevant industry experience

  • An ability to create lasting client relationships
  • A commitment to providing exceptional customer service across all interactions and fostering long term, quality relationships with clients
  • An ability to communicate clearly, concisely and positively, varying your communication approach to best suit your audience
  • Excellent time management skills, being able to balance multiple projects at once
  • A desire to work as a team and help others achieve company goals
  • Be able to take constructive feedback from others and provide feedback to your team
  • Have a professional approach to your work and client meetings

APPLYING FOR THIS ROLE

In your Cover Letter please answer the following two questions :

Tell us about a time when you had to make a difficult trade-off in a hardware or electronics project (for example : performance vs. reliability, time vs. test coverage, simplicity vs. scalability). What decision did you make, and how did you communicate and justify it to your team and stakeholders / clients?

Describe a time when you built a strong, long-term relationship with a client / stakeholder (internal or external to your company). What steps did you take to earn their trust? What was your approach to understanding their needs and expectations? Was there a time you went above and beyond for them?

Please also send through your CV, and if you have any examples of circuit boards you have created that you can share with us, we’d love to see them. All items should be sent to Sarah at
