Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

Are you passionate about creating seamless digital experiences and building scalable design systems? Join IAG’s Retail Digital Tech team as a Lead Designer, where you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our internal design ecosystem.

Some of the key responsibilities of this role will be :

  • Collaborate with the Product Owner and Engineering Lead to shape the vision and roadmap for the design system, ensuring it meets the needs of multiple brands and teams.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather design requirements, present prototypes for feedback, and secure approvals to move forward confidently.
  • Manage and evolve the design system using design tokens to maintain brand consistency, accessibility, and scalability across platforms.
  • Ensure all design components meet accessibility standards and are inclusive for all users.
  • Maintain and scale Figma libraries, integrating new tools and updates while supporting designers and developers with consistent, high-quality assets.
  • Design reusable UI components and patterns through user research, usability testing, and iterative improvements, while encouraging contributions from the wider design community.
  • Promote the design system across the organisation, highlighting its value and encouraging adoption among teams.
  • Organise training sessions, workshops, and feedback forums to share ideas, gather input, and collaborate with the wider design community on the system’s ongoing development.
  • Stay up to date with the latest UX and design trends to continuously improve the system and support product outcomes.
  • Work within agile teams, actively participating in stand-ups, retrospectives, planning, and prioritisation to deliver iteratively and collaboratively.

This is a 12 months fixed term role open to candidate anywhere in New Zealand

Ōu Pūkenga | About You

The successful candidate will have :

  • Proven experience working in design systems and UX / UI design roles.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Figma with experience in creating and maintaining centralised design asset libraries. Familiarity with managing multi-brand Figma variables is highly desirable.
  • Strong UX / UI design expertise, with a keen eye for detail, consistency, and user-centric design principles.
  • Proven experience working with design systems, including brand style guides, component libraries, and design language frameworks.
  • Basic understanding of front-end development fundamentals (HTML / CSS), with the ability to collaborate effectively with developers and assess technical feasibility of UI components and design tokens.
  • Deep knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), including hands-on experience in testing and implementation.
  • Prior experience in a dedicated Design System team is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for learning and staying up to date with the latest trend and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions and solve complex problems.
