Are you ready to shape the financial future of one of New Zealand’s most diverse government departments? The Department of Internal Affairs Te Tari Taiwhenua (DIA) is seeking a Strategic Financial Analyst to join our high‑performing Financial Planning and Analysis team within the Finance Group.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of strategic financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting. You’ll provide insightful analysis and advice to senior leaders, support capital planning, and drive continuous improvement of our financial systems. Your work will directly influence investment decisions and long‑term financial sustainability across DIA.

About you | He kōrero mōu

To be successful in this role, you will bring :

  • Proven experience in strategic finance or financial analysis
  • Strong modelling and data analysis skills using tools like Excel and Power BI
  • Knowledge of public sector financial frameworks, including the Public Finance Act, Public Service Act, and NZ GAAP
  • Ability to influence decision-making and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (CAANZ Chartered Accountant or equivalent preferred)
  • Legal right to live and work in New Zealand
