Role Overview

Join Rydges Latimer Christchurch, where contemporary comfort meets locally inspired dining. As our Sous Chef, you’ll play a key leadership role in delivering outstanding culinary experiences at our award‑winning hotel. Working alongside the Executive Chef, you’ll oversee daily kitchen operations, uphold high food standards, and inspire your team to create dishes that showcase quality, creativity, and consistency. This role is perfect for a hands‑on leader passionate about excellence and growth within a dynamic, supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily kitchen operations, ensuring exceptional food quality and presentation.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor kitchen staff to achieve high performance.
  • Maintain top standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness.
  • Manage ordering, stock control, and food costs to meet budget goals.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu planning and specials.
  • Support a positive, team‑focused culture across all kitchen areas.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior CDP in a quality hotel or restaurant.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent culinary knowledge with a passion for fresh, seasonal ingredients.
  • Sound understanding of kitchen operations and cost management.
  • Calm and efficient under pressure with great attention to detail.
  • Committed to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid New Zealand work rights are essential.
