Role Title : Senior Adviser Forest Service

Role Type : Permanent, full-time

Location : Christchurch

General Salary Range D : $100,934 to $135,076 depending on skills and experience

Play a strategic role in shaping the future of forestry. This is a unique opportunity to provide regional forestry advice to land managers and the wider sector—maximising the benefits of our forests, supporting sustainable land use, and helping meet climate goals.

About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

You'll be part of a national team working with landowners and organisations to support capability building, provide advice on the benefits of trees, increase regulatory awareness, and provide quality information on Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service (TUR-NZFS) work programmes.

Your key responsibilities for this role will include :

  • Providing information and advice on forests and forestry activity across all stages of the forest lifecycle
  • Working locally with forestry networks, industry, and complementary groups to build knowledge and capability by sharing expertise, insight and information
  • Supporting Te Uru Rākau - New Zealand Forest Service in local engagement and outreach activities
  • Act as the regional lead for international delegations and leadership visits on behalf of TUR and deliver and present regional workshops for stakeholders
  • Contribute to the development of work programmes for each financial year in line with strategic direction, utilising industry experience and knowledge e.g. extension for regional councils, resilience forest programme of work, native afforestation programme
  • Use expertise and insights to facilitate the delivery of a range of cross-directorate and cross-Ministry forestry and land management related initiatives

About You - Mōu

You're someone who enjoys building collaborative and effective working relationships in order to get work done.

As an ideal candidate you will :

  • Have the credibility and ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Have excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare and deliver unbiased and neutral forest advice (written and verbal)
  • Have experience across the forestry lifecycle and supply chain
  • Be able to work with a high degree of independence and the ability provide mentoring and leadership to the wider team.
  • A good forestry background or a minimum of 5 years of experience in a relevant industry
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to prepare high written advice and reports
  • Have supervisory skills with the confidence to assist internal leaders if needed
  • Hold a full and current NZ Driver Licence, as travel within Canterbury and the West Coast is required
