The Assistant Librarian - Pakeke Collections will be a driving force behind Waimakariri Libraries offering to pakeke (adults) of all ages, reading abilities, and backgrounds.
The successful candidate will be well supported to provide exceptional content and experiences that inspire, delight, and spark a passion for lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
The selection and supply of print and resources that are Aotearoa-relevant, high-quality, and responsive to our diverse and vibrant communities.
This role will have a focus on our Adult Fiction, Large Print, World Languages, Bestsellers and Dementia-Friendly collections.
Contributing to the planning and delivery of inspiring programming and events that boost literacy and promote libraries as places for adults to feel welcome and catered for.
Advocating for our adult audience, drawing from evolving trends in libraries and the emergence of new technologies.
Strategic oversight of Collection management and promotion within a team environment.

A passion for literacy and lifelong learning, and a commitment to community wellbeing.
A love of literature, stories, and words across mediums.
A genuine interest in the creation and delivery of dynamic library experiences that are responsive to diverse and changing community needs.
A high level of digital / technical competence, with a sound understanding of financial budgeting and collection management and reporting.
Knowledge and understanding of current and emerging library technologies.
A successful track record of delivering impeccable service in a fast-paced environment.
Work arrangement
This role is scoped to work permanent, full-time (40 hours) or hours by negotiation.
Our library team works on a rotating roster for covering late nights in the event of sickness or leave.
The Assistant Librarian Pakeke Collections will work predominantly at our Rangiora site, with one permanent day at Kaiapoi and an expectation to perform collection management oversight at our Oxford library site.
