Te Kāpehu Whetū was founded in Whangārei with a clear vision : to raise rangatahi who are confident, capable, and grounded in te reo me ōna tikanga. Guided by our three pou : Kia Māori (Be Māori), Kia Mātau (Be Educated), Kia Tū Rangatira Ai (Be Rangatira) our kura has built a strong reputation for academic achievement, cultural strength, and leadership development.

January 2026, Te Kāpehu Whetū - Tāmaki Makaurau will open its doors. This new Kura Hourua will welcome day students and boarding students from Tai Tokerau and the wider Auckland area offering high achievement across academics, sports, and pathways into key industries.

About the role

We are seeking a driven Pouhere (Principal) to lead this kura. This is a rare opportunity to shape the culture, curriculum, and direction from the outset, setting the benchmark for innovation, academic excellence, and authentic Māori leadership.

The Pouheres will :

• Create a thriving learning environment that combines kura and city experiences
• Mentor and inspire a dedicated teaching and support team
• Build strong partnerships with whānau, iwi, tertiary providers, and industry leaders

What we’re looking for

A proven educational leader with deep knowledge of te reo Māori me ona tikanga; skilled in innovative learning design; visionary yet grounded; an excellent communicator and mentor; and passionate about rangatahi success in every arena.
