Job description

About us

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) is responsible for training, educating and representing psychiatrists in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is accredited by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) to deliver specialist medical education and training, and professional development programs. The College is committed to elevating healthcare outcomes for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Māori communities guided by its commitments to reconciliation and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About the role

We are recruiting for two identified positions that play an important role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members and staff through meaningful cultural planning and engagement.

In this role, you’ll help bring the College’s commitment to life, ensuring psychiatric care is culturally safe, responsive, and accessible by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You’ll work closely with staff to develop and deliver personalised Cultural Support Plans that recognise, respect, and strengthen individual and community connections to culture.

You’ll also contribute to the success of key initiatives by coordinating and providing guidance on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander–related projects and programs, including the Specialist Training Program (STP) and the Psychiatry Interest Forum (PIF). Monitoring, reflecting on, and celebrating progress will be an important part of how you help these initiatives grow and thrive.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you will bring knowledge and / or lived experience of the issues impacting access to healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and professionals. You’ll have a deep understanding of culturally safe and respectful engagement, along with strong interpersonal and communication skills. You will also have :

  • Demonstrated experience in public health, health, policy, or a related area.
  • A strong track record of engaging effectively with Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, or organisations.
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or the legal right to work in Australia.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a National Police Check prior to commencing employment.

Some of what's on offer

  • Base salary up to $72,0000 + leave loading and 12% superannuation.
  • A paid day off each month for full-time employees.
  • 12 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave, available to both primary and secondary caregivers.
  • A values-led, inclusive, and culturally safe workplace where diversity is celebrated.
  • The chance to be part of a passionate team working to improve mental health outcomes.
  • Purpose-driven work that makes a meaningful difference to communities across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • How to apply

To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining how you meet the requirements of the role as a single document via the Expr3ss link. We recommend reviewing the position description before applying.

For any queries, contact us at No agencies, please.

    Diversity and Inclusion

At the RANZCP, we are committed to fostering a workplace where diversity, inclusion, and authenticity are celebrated. We warmly welcome applications from people of all backgrounds – including First Nations peoples, LGBTQIA+ communities, neurodivergent individuals, and people of all ages, ethnicities, faiths, and lived and living experiences. We value and embrace what makes you uniquely you.
